1983 the original
Superstudio opened on 13, Forcella St in Milan. Superstudio is a large scale photographic studio and image/fashion design service center. Its creator,
Flavio Lucchini, comes from a strong and extensive background who made an important impact in the fashion world. After co-founding the Art Director's Club of Milan in 1967, Lucchini went on to become creator, editor, journalist and art director of some of the most important fashion magazines in the 60's, 70's and 80's in the fashion world. An artist in his own right, Lucchini is now refined artist and sculptor.
Flavio Lucchini was assited in the creation of Superstudio by his wife/journalist, Gisella Borioli, along with Fabrizio Ferri who as a young photographer worked on Lucchini's magazines has now become an international star. (Ferri left Superstudio to open Industria SuperStudio in 1987)
As director Danilo Pasqua, Superstudio has quickly become a valued venue where photographers, editors, art directors, stylists and other creative minds can find tools and the perfect environment they need as fashion artists. At the same time it has become the most talked about and innovative meeting place, contributing to the beginning of new phenomenons in the fashion world.
Surrounding the nucleus of Superstudio's photographic studios, a series of companies have come together to offer complementary services such as photo development labs, production companies, video editing, digital services, set designers, photography and modeling schools/agencies. It has literally become a village of image and fashion.
In 2000, the company became known as Superstudio Group with the addition of Superstudio Piu. Located on via Tortona is added to Superstudio 13. 17,000sqm of industrial space which used to be the ex-General Electric factory. Transforming the complex into offices, halls, showrooms, restaurants, gardes, atelier, dance studios. Large scale communication services, fashion shows, exhibitions, conventions, artistic and cultural events can now take place within the complex.
Many independant companies have recently relocated in the vicinity of Superstudio to be close to the fashion action. Television and event production companies, communication agencies, editors, free trendy and internet magazines, web designers, design studios, showrooms, and a mixture of cultural associations involved in theatre and dance entertainment, art shows and festivals appearing in this corner of Milan.
Superstudio Group is divided up in two locations one in Via Forcella and the other in Via Tortona, just 200mt apart ,Giorgio Armani’s Theatre head officein between. Surrounding them are industrial spaces that have turned into fashion, design, art and communication related businesses, making it the most creative neighbourhood in Milan called “Zona Tortona”, a city in the city, created spontaneously by Flavio Lucchini's intuition in 1983.
