This area is in full transformation, taking on a look more and more like an artist´s and creative´s neighbourhood, the Soho of Milan, with trendy restaurants, movie theatres, elite theatres, bookshops, clubs, gyms, event locations, sharing the same area with the local craftsmen and small shopkeepers. Coming soon is a DESIGN HOTEL and large parking plaza.
To define “Zona Tortona” it means the web of streets ; Via Solari, Via Stendal, Via Tortona, Via Bergognone including the side streets ;Via Savona, Via Voghera, Via Bugatti and Via Forcella, that form a society which promotes, innovates, invents and coordinates art activity in the fashion, communication, design community.
Via Tortona is a long street beginning at Porta Genova's historical steel bridge which connects its train station and subway. It stretches onto the main street that goes around Milan and leads directly to the highways.
On the left of Via Tortona, about 200sqm apart with in between Giorgio Arman´s head office, part of an ex-post office building, restored by Tadao Ando, there are Superstudio´s two offices: first the photography studios of Superstudio 13 on Via Forcella, after Bergognone´s square and the second Superstudio Piu, an event complex in via Tortona 27.
Facing is the large Ansaldo complex, former electric industry and property of Milan Council, a real cultural pole, already a laboratory for stage design and rehearsals for the Scala and soon the head office for the Cultural Museum of Milan planned and designed by the English Arch. David Chipperfield.
Soon after, between via Stendel and via Savona, another big industrial complex, the ex-steelworks company Riva Calzoni, which accommodates by the way Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation and his sculptures, in addition to the footwear company, Delle Valle's new office, apart from other companies of the fashion world.
Tortona District is an area where you can easily come across models, photographers, art directors, film directors, stylists, architects, and together with what remains of the craftsmen,
ex-industry workers and small shop keepers.
This area completely transforms itself during different periods of the year when it gets invaded by a friendly and creative crowd in the fashion/design industry. This happens regularly in combination with the Fashion Week, for the men’s collections in Jan/Jun, the women’s collections in Feb/Sept, and the vanguard fashion fair WHITE at Superstudio Piu / Neozone in via Tortona, in Feb/Sept also in combination with the Furniture Fair and the Fuori salone Design Connection in April. In these hot weeks, every point of interest in Tortona District, from fashion shows, expositions, events, to showrooms, are visible simply by following the trail of red spots glued on the ground or using the free shuttle service.


Tortona District is in constant development of activities, re-styling and restructuring. NOHW is the new Art and Design Hotel in via Tortona 35 with a large parking plaza.
